Driving from Turin Airport to the city centre

Leaving the airport, follow signs for Torino on the Turin–Caselle link road, which joins the northern ring road (Tangenziale Nord) after a few kilometres. From there the city centre is around 25 minutes away in normal traffic. The ring road also takes you straight onto the motorways to Milan, Aosta and the Susa Valley without driving through the city.

Turin’s ZTL: the one rule to know

The historic centre of Turin is a limited traffic zone (ZTL) monitored by cameras. Hire cars are not authorised, and fines are sent to the rental company and then charged to you, often months later.

  • Central ZTL: active 7:30–10:30 on weekdays, Saturdays excluded.
  • Area around Via Roma (ZTL Romana): closed every day from 21:00 to 7:30.
  • Valentino Park: closed to traffic 24 hours a day.

Outside these hours you can drive in freely. The simplest option is to leave the car in a multi-storey car park at the edge of the centre and walk or take the metro. Times can change: check the City of Turin website before you go.

Driving in Italy: quick tips for visitors

  • Drive on the right. Speed limits: 130 km/h on motorways (110 km/h in rain), 110 km/h on main roads, 90 km/h on other roads outside towns, 50 km/h in towns, unless signs say otherwise.
  • Dipped headlights are required outside built-up areas, day and night.
  • Motorway tolls: take a ticket when you join and pay when you leave, by card or cash. Avoid the yellow lanes marked Telepass: they are for electronic tags only.
  • Fuel: “benzina” is petrol, “gasolio” is diesel. Pumps marked “fai da te” (self-service) are cheaper than “servito”.

Winter car hire for the ski resorts

Turin Airport is the gateway to some of the best skiing in the Alps. From Caselle you can reach the Via Lattea resorts (Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario) in about 1 hour 30 minutes, Bardonecchia in about 1 hour 15 minutes, and Cervinia in about 1 hour 45 minutes.

In Italy, winter tyres or snow chains on board are compulsory on many roads, generally from 15 November to 15 April, and always on mountain roads when signs require them. Planning a winter trip? Contact us before you book to check the winter equipment for your car.

Where to go from Turin Airport

  • Reggia di Venaria: the royal palace is about 15 minutes from the airport.
  • The Langhe and Barolo: Alba and the wine hills, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape, are around 1 hour 15 minutes away.
  • Aosta Valley: Aosta is about 1 hour 30 minutes by motorway.
  • Lake Maggiore: Stresa and the Borromean Islands in around 1 hour 30 minutes.

Turin Airport car hire: frequently asked questions

How far is Turin Airport from the city center?

About 16 km. By car, taking the Turin–Caselle link road and the Northern Ring Road (Tangenziale Nord), you can reach the center in approximately 25 minutes under normal traffic conditions.

At Strada Aeroporto 12, 10072 Caselle Torinese (TO).

No, rental cars are not authorized to enter during active hours. The Central ZTL is active from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM on weekdays (excluding Saturdays). You can drive there outside of these hours, but it is always best to check the updated schedule on the Municipality’s website.

When picking up the vehicle, the original and valid driver’s license must be presented along with a valid identity card or passport. The driver’s license must be valid for the duration of the rental period and for at least six weeks thereafter. Copies, digital or temporary driving licences are not accepted. All drivers, regardless of age, must have held a valid driving licence for at least one year prior to the start of the rental period. The one-year requirement refers to the date when the driver first obtained the relevant driving licence category, not the issue date of a renewed or replacement document. For non-Latin driver’s licenses, an international driving permit or an official translation is required along with the original license. Non-EU driver’s licenses may be subject to further verification.

A security deposit is required upon vehicle collection to cover any potential claims arising from the rental agreement. We accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards for payment and the security deposit. Some debit cards may be accepted under certain conditions, such as when purchasing a protection package. We do not accept cash payment. We do not accept prepaid cards for the security deposit. Payment cards must be valid for at least six months from the date of collection.

The vehicle will be held for 30 minutes after the agreed pick-up time. After this period, the booking may be considered a no-show or missed pick-up, in accordance with the rental terms and conditions.

No additional charges apply for returns delayed by up to 30 minutes. If the vehicle is returned more than 30 minutes late, additional rental and operating costs may apply.

We operate on a “same fuel level” policy. Please return the car with the same fuel level as when you picked it up. If the fuel level is lower, refueling and service charges may apply.

If the car breaks down, call roadside assistance using the phone number displayed in the car.
